On February 23, 1909, on a frozen lake in Nova Scotia, a silver-winged "aerodrome" amazed onlookers as it flew 0.8 km (0.5 mi) to complete the first airplane flight in Canada. Designed and built by the Aerial Experiment Association under Alexander Graham Bell, the Silver Dart flew 50 times before being destroyed during military trials; around the world the potential value of flight in war was fast being discovered.

Message from the President April 2006

This month I am happy to announce that Doug Dahr has agreed to become the newest member of the APNA Executive. Doug is taking on the job of membership chairman and all enquiries regarding membership should now be directed to him. Congratulations Doug.

Looking into the future for 2007, I know you will be interested to find out that Halifax has been given the okay to host the Spring Show in May 2007.

A membership contest that runs from March 2006 to March 2007 will have a prize of a 2000 $20 Bluenose Transportation coin (value approx. $200). Receive one point for each new member you can bring into the APNA during this period.

I am happy to announce that there will be an APNA benefit auction held at the Spring Show in Charlottetown May 5/6th. Randy Larsen is in charge of accepting donations and to date donations have been received from:

Harry Eisenhauer
Dr. Alban Comeau
Glenn & Mildred Rodger
Randy Larsen
David Wolfe

All proceeds from the auction go to the APNA.

The winner of the "Secret Word" contest on APNAOnline.ca for the month of March is Bertram Warr. Congratulations Bertram, you will receive a Halifax 2005 pure silver APNA medal from the Spring Show. (value approx. $40)

April's contest has now started, be sure to register for your chance to win the next medal.

At least 15 members I have talked to from the Halifax Regional Coin Club are planning to make the trip to Charlottetown for the Spring Show May 5/6th. Remember all APNA members in attendance will have a chance to win a 2005 APNA silver medal.

I am looking forward to meeting members from all regions at this show and again I would ask you to please give me your suggestions and criticizms of what you have observed so far from this executive.

Yours truly,
David Wolfe
President, APNA
