On February 23, 1909, on a frozen lake in Nova Scotia, a silver-winged "aerodrome" amazed onlookers as it flew 0.8 km (0.5 mi) to complete the first airplane flight in Canada. Designed and built by the Aerial Experiment Association under Alexander Graham Bell, the Silver Dart flew 50 times before being destroyed during military trials; around the world the potential value of flight in war was fast being discovered.

Message from the President

Well September is here and everybody is busy building up the interest in their hobby once again. The APNA will be holding its Fall show in Saint John on October 15th. If you have not booked your room yet, you should do it soon because of limited space.

The APNA now has a new lapel pin and it would be nice to see all members wearing it at future shows and special events to show others just how many people belong to our organization. The pin will be available at the Saint John show at the cost price of $3, also Citadel Coins of Halifax and Nova Coins and Stamps of Lower Sackville currently have a supply.

Everybody is talking about the big show for Halifax next August. I have talked to the show organizers and want to assure you that their show will not interfere with the Spring APNA Show to be held in Halifax the weekend of May ?. I must say that it is great to hear about the efforts of Citadel Coins and The Coin Cabinet to bring us a show of this calibre. I am told that many Halifax Coin Club and APNA members have already volunteered their services to the show organizers and this can only be a positive step in helping to make a great success of this show.

At the APNA fall meeting to be held in Saint John many important subjects need to be discussed, for example:

At this time I again would urge all of you to get more involved in supporting the APNA. We need volunteers in all aspects of this organization. We do not want to find ourselves in the same position as the Wooden Money Society did a few years ago.

Please forward all of your suggestions, complaints, criticisms ow whatever to myself or any Executive member. No matter what your comments are, it is better to hear from you than to continue to wonder if you exist or not.

See you all in Saint John in October.

Yours truly,
David Wolfe
President, APNA

BREAKING NEWS

The APNA is now offering any club in the Atlantic region the oppurtunity to have their own website absolutely FREE. Any member or coin shop that would like to obtain their own website, will also be given the oppurtunity at a small fee. Watch our main page for more details coming soon.

I would ask any club interested to appoint a person to work with our webmaster (Darrell Madore) as soon as possible, Darrell already has a sample page set up for each club and will work with your representative at all times to make the most of this oppurtunity.
